Dogs, especially the ones that belong to a particular breed tend to eat more than what you think their feeding amount might be. There are food loving dogs that are also found drooling, especially when you are eating one of their favorite food items.
Drooling is one of the canine’s usual habits, when they see you eat. However, it is not a normal thing if your dog, especially golden retriever keeps drooling all the time. When you are traveling in the car with your dog and it starts drooling. This can be due to stress.
Your pet might also start drooling when there is the arrival of new dog or some guests, because of the feeling of being around someone new.
The breed golden retriever has some particular issues that can make them drool continuously, and alert you about the problem. Some are listed below.
Dogs drool because of the exposure to some dangerous toxins. During the case of food poisoning, the body of the dog starts slowing down and results in excess pain. If not detected and treated early the dog might collapse.
Liver disease has serious toll on the health of dogs. If your golden retriever is suffering from liver disease, then you might notice it drooling, uncoordinated, disoriented, feeling weak and unable to even stand, and finally show changes in behaviors. Hence, it is suggested to get it checked, if you see excess drooling.
Even dogs are also more prone to heat stroke, if exposed to sunlight for longer hours. Hence, if you make your dog stand under sunlight, after bathing, then you might see it drooling. Other conditions also include vomiting, high fever, reddishness in tongue, etc.
When you do not know the actual reason for your golden retriever drooling, it becomes difficult for you to come up with any of the strategies that might work its charm. Hence, the first thing to do if you see your dog drooling is to take it to the vet.
Find the Trigger
As mentioned above, there are many reasons that can make your dog drool. First thing that you must always do is to check its mouth for the presence of any foreign objects. If you find one remove it immediately. If you do not find any symptoms of your dog being ill and yet it is drooling, then the best way to stop it is by cuddling your dear pet for some minutes.
Tie a Bandana
When your golden retriever drools, its neck area might become wet and sticky. Hence, in order to restrict this, put a bandana around its neck to catch the drool drips.
If your dog starts drooling because of travelling in the car or bus, etc, then the only way to make its nerves calm is by giving suitable medications. This helps to soothe their nerves and keep them composed, all the way.
